I hope you had a nice Christmas. Our family did. We got to spend time with the children and grandchildren, and that was fun! Now, onto the New Year. What will it bring? Good and bad, as usual. I look at it as a clean slate. I'm the writer and I make my own Fate, with God's help. Speaking of writing, a lady called me and asked me to print out some of my poems in my column. I told her I would, but that I'm not a poet, I'm a Rhymer. Anyway, I've included some general topics. As most of you know. I'm anti-war, and most of my poetry reflects my views: so I've included some of them,too. No offense meant to anyone. Here goes: Letting Go I wanna go out with dignity - no feeding tubes for me. Just let me go quietly to the Other Side. where my Soul can finally be free. When my body fails. I don't want to hold on to "life"- when I stop being Me, let me go. My time on Earth will have come to the end- it's supposed to be that way, don't you know? Perhaps we'll meet again in an- other life- my body will be different but my Soul will be the same. Those sol- diers fighting for America... in harm' s way in a foreign land. Who speaks for them? Our Brave, striving to stay alive one more day. What must be going thru their minds as they face foreign fighters, fighting with such a fierce will.., fighting for their Homeland. Are they waiting for room and dad to save enough money to send them body armour? Who speaks for Them? What about the soldiers who say "No'More! No more killing, no more seeing my friends die before my eyes .... no more will I take part in an immoral war..." Who speaks for Them? Who speaks for the thousands of broken heroes returning home.., bod- ies and lives shattered.., only to be denied medical benefits because ev- erybody MUST make a sacrifice for The War. A decent shelter - food - loved ones - clothes - good health - the desire to be free. I don' t hate you- you"re my Brother or Sister. We may have different ideas- hey! that's ok. The bottom line is we're all God's Children- we're m this World together, come what may. Let us work together- there are many problems we have to address. Tell me, which people would de- serve such a fate? That's funny- the Bible tells me Jesus preached LOVE not hate. What group of God's children are so evil and vile to the core'? Who would Jesus bomb? On which of God' s Children would Jesus declare war? I thought God made everybody- black, white, brown, yellow and red. He wants us to love one another. not fight- at least that's what my Bible said What country would Jesus bomb? You know the answer as we [l as I. 3esus was the Prince of Peace- He wouldn't bomb any country causing thousands of innocents to die. Feb. 4. 2003 Claudia Rexroad My Morn My mother taught me honesty- to thine own self be true. Ask questions-listen carefully. Al- ways do the best you can do. She raised me strict- don't dare talk back. Spare the rod. spoil the child she'd say. I'd take a spanking -get mad- go pout-. Not come home 'til the end of the day. My favorite hiding spot was in the green leafy branches, high in the middle of an old Maple tree. From its sturdy arms I'd be still- as- a- mouse listening to my mom's voice calling tO inc. "Where are you? Come home to eat!" I'd stay up there, listening to her yell. At dusk, hunger would head me home- where I was. I'd never tell. It was only many years later when poor health brought her home. to live with me that she told me she knew all along about me hiding in the old Maple tree. "I figured you needed ttme to your- self. We both needed to cool off for awhile. I'd look out. see you in the tree- pretend I didn't!" she said to me with a smile. My mother and I laughed ourselves silly- at the tlought of me high in the tree. We had many good times, my morn and I- I was the child she wanted to be.
