Tina Burkhammer "I think rm a pretty average basketball player," says Tins Burk- hammer, "I play on the boy's fifth and sixth grade team at Troy." Tina is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Burkhammer of Linn. She is shooting baskets outside with her friends." Tina's mother said they "were worried at first, but now everyone is reacting marvelously to it all." According to Troy coach, William Jones, "'Tins is a good basketball player. She is on the boy's team because there is no Fifth and sixth grade girl's team." Jones said that since you have to be in the seventh grade to join the girl's basketball team, "the law states that ff a girl wants to play a sport and there are none available for girls, then she is entitled to join the boy's team. Next year Tina will be able to join the girl's basketball team." The Troy team has a 3-2 record and Coach Jones said "Tina adds a lot to the team. Our boys treat her just like anybody else, but other teams don't quite know how to react to 3~ma and, as a result, they give her enough breathing room to score additional points." Not only do Tina's parents like her her to play, but they "encourage her to play." Her mother said that at first "the reaction of both her father and I was one of surprise, but now we realize that she loves sports - she's a regular sports nut.
