4 The Gienvflle Democrat/Pathfinder Trojan Cheerleaders take cheering honors Gilmer downs Harrisville ""' "" in overtime thriller nets with 22 points Pictured above are the Troy Trojan cheerleaders. The cheerleaders recently took first place in cheerleadin$ at a bssketball tourney in Spencer. THE You'll think you're walking on clouds in shoes from H-P! STORES .o Recently, the 7th and 8th grade cheerleaders from Troy Elementary School realized that hard work and cooperation do pay off in the long run. On the last night of the basketball tournament at Spencer High School, February 24th, the five girls received a trophy entitled: "Best Cheering." The trophy was presented by the Clover Invitational Committee. The girls were in competition with 3 other squads. The chprlpders tried their best. during the football and basketball seasons, to perfect their cheers and to lead the fans in enthusiastic cheering. Their largest concern was to be worthy representatives of their school. WEST SECOND ST. WESTON, WV The 7th grade cheerleaders are Judy Chisler, Debbie Moore. The 8th graders include Debby Simmons, Donna Bumgardner, and Sherri McPherson. The girls are sponsored by Norma Zatko. Hour8 12 til 6 Sunday 10 til 8 Daily The Gilmer Titans nipped Harris- ville's Gators 6563 in what Titan Coach Dave Barnes termed a "good baUgame between two evenly matched teams." The win sends Gilmer County, now 15-7, into regional play against Spencer tonight in Parkersburg. The squeaker was decided in one period of overtime. Gilmer and Harrisville met two times before this season with both previous contests also being decided in overtime, one in a double overtime. Harrisville, which finished with a 148 overall record, found itself down nine going into the fouth quarter but rallied to catch Gilmer at 45-45 and the thrilling contest see-sawed back and forth until the Gators' Craig Parks sank a lO-footer with four seconds left to knot the score at 58 and send the game into overtime. County Titan's to s edge at 63-62 but Gilmer grabbed a single-point edge at 64-63 and never relinquished it in the final, frantic seconds as Okie Amos' 25-footer bounced off the rim at the buzzer. Titans heroes in the overtime were Jerry McPherson with three free throws and Tim Brady, who converted both ends of a one-and-one situation to send Gilmer into the lead. HarrisviUe was led by all-state candidate Okie Amos, who gunned in 26 points; Jerry Helmick, with 16 points" and Craig Parks with 12 markers. Gilmer was paced by McPherson with 24, John Fox with 14, Brady with 11 and Kevin Kennedy with I0.
