The 2009 Calhoun Cup schedule: April 25, 2009, Flower Power Run, Calhoun County Park, 9 a.m. June 6, 2009, Wood Festival Run, Road Course in Grantsville. 8 a.m. June 20, 2009, Appalachian Clas- sic. Calhoun County Park, 9 a.m. August 15, 2009, Hotter Than Heck Run, Calhoun County Park 9 a.m. November 7, 2009, Not Yet Done Run, Calhoun County Park, 10 a.m. Brian Taylor, of Spencer, won the Men' s Running Division of last year' s Calhoun Cup, while Melinda Fitzwater, of Mount Zion. won the Women's Running Division. Mark Rooper. of Scott Depot. won the Men's Walking Division, while Marty Owings, of Pennsboro, won the Women's Walking Division. This year. the Calhoun Runners will be trying to raise money for the Calhoun Middle/High School cross country team and track team. The money will be used to purchase equip- ment and uniforms and to help defray Takes Opener; Pioneers Avenge Glenville State recovered from a tough loss in the opener, to pick up a split in dramatic fashion, with the visiting Lady Griffins of Seton Hill. GSC improved to 17-18 overall and 13-7 in the WVIAC. Game 1 Glenville St. couldn't overcome a poor fielding performance, as they gave up three unearned runs on their way to a 3-2 loss in game 1. Seton Hill would open the scoring in the 2nd. as DiVittorio would reach on a fielder's choice. Piekut would then reach on a throwing error by the 3rd baseman, which would allow DiVittorio to score. SHU would lead 1-0 after the top of the second. GSC would answer with two runs in the 4th inning. With one out. Kohle LADY PIONEER AT BAT the 7th to tie the game. and then won it on a three-run walk off HR by Candace White. After three scoreless innings by both teams, Seton Hill would explode for three runs in top of the 4th. Bitsko would lead off with a single, and move to second on Nusser walk. Both runners would move up a base on a wild pitch from Laura Childers. Three pitches later Bitsko would score on another wild pitch to make it 1-0. Af- ter DiVittoric would draw a five pitch walk, Nusser would come home on the third Childers wild pitch of the inning. Kaczynski would single to plate DiVittorio to make it 3-0. Pioneer Spring Game Thursday Head Coach Alan Fiddler and his staff have announced the Pioneers will hold their annual Blue/White spring game on Thursday, April 23, at I.L. Morris Stadium. Kickoff for GSC's final football event of the spring will be at 6 pm. at The Pioneer and Lady Pioneer Track and Fields had a strong performance at the Wendy's Bobcat Classic. The men finished second out of six teams while the women finished fourth Out of eight teams. The men were again paced by Xavier Glenn. as he finished first in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, as well as a third in the 4x100 meter relay. Rodney Lee and Jordan Swiger tied for first in the high jump, while Chris Freeman got second in the shot p~atand Antwan Stewart finished sec- ond in the 100. GSC Men's Golf Finishes 8th The Men's Golf Team finished 8th in the season ending tournament at Bel ,Meadow C.C. hosted by WV Wesleyan. GSC shot a two day total of 693.
