FSC&TC offers courses at more than 25 sites a semester in a 13- county service area through Off- Campus Programs. The Lewis County Center, located in Lewis County High School, supports classes scheduled in FSC&TC's Southern Service Area, which includes Braxton, Calhoun, Gilmer and Upshur counties. The Lewis County Center offers a variety of courses designed to fulfill general degree requirements. Major courses are offered in Business, Criminal Justice and General; Stud- ies. Upper level courses in Psychol- ogy and Sociology are also offered. General degree requirements are of_ fered in Braxton County. Courses required for the Early Childhood degree are offered in Upshur and Calhoun Counties. ChalleNGe Academy receives funding The West Virginia Legislature has restored funding to continue the Mountaineer ChalleNGe Academy located at Camp Dawson near Kingwood in Preston County. Aftera decade of serving youth who volu,- teer for the program. Many profes- sionals across the state who work with youth are pleased to learn that the program is cont!nui ng to offer this wonderful alternative. The Academy is currently accept- i ng.applications for the July class. Tills free residential program, de- signed for both male and female 16- 18-year-old students that were not successful in public school, helps pre- pare students for their GED. Since 1993, over 1200 students have gradu- ated from the Academy representing all 55 counties ofthe State. The Moun_ taineer ChalleNGe Academy offers two cycles each year; each class is 22 weeks long In a structured, quasi- military environment following the Program's eight core components, the Cadet's training environment pays attention to detail, respect, and self- discipline.
