In May, the monthly meeting was held outside in spite of the rain. All members participated in our club fun day. Some events included 50 yard dash, sack race, softball throw, three legged race, and an egg throwing contest. On May 14, the club sponsored a hayride for all club members and their families. Each club member invited one friend. They started at the Community Building in Cox's Mill and went to Bear Fork. There was a wether roast and a softball game for extra activities. Pearson. The funds will be used to finance construction and repair of West Virginia roads and bridges. In New York, Pearson indicated that West Virginia will actually realize more than the $50,000,000 total from the bond sale. "I have arranged to invest these funds immediately after I receive them at an interest rate of 6.450/o, '' he said, explaining further, "This is a higher rate than the State is paying to investors of the bonds, and, thus, West VLrinia will earn $612 per day more in interest than it will pay for the money until needed by the Department of Highways." A recent presentation by Treas- urer Pearson to financial rating agencies in New York resulted in an upgrading of the State's credit rating to "AA+ by Standard and Pear's Corporation. Pearson emphasized, "The confidence this upgrading gave to investors was evidenced by the very competitive bids West Virginia received last month on its Road Bonds." The higher a state's credit rating, the lower its interest costs will be. tlon to the Hometown Newspaper • The Glenvtlle Democrat and The Glenvme Pathfinder. "'Facts About the USDA Beef Grades," a four-page publication recently released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, answers virtually all questions the beef-eating public might have on the subject, according to USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service in announcing its availability. Among the highlights covered are: the eight different grades under which beef carcasses fall: the difference and relationship between quality grades and yield grades: and the potential advantages of the recently revised grade standards for the consumer and the cattle producer. Veterans Ask... The Veterans Administration recently reminded former servicemen and women that lost documents should not deter them from seeking VA benefits for which they may be eligible. "We have found that some veterans who cannot locate their birth or marriage certificate are not applying for benefits because they believe these documents are absolutely necessary," said Sam A. Tiano, Director of the VA Regional Office in Huntington. W.Va. He also added that, "the VA has trained benefits counselors in each of the 58 Regional Offices who will assist veterans and their dependents on the question of eligibility." For example, VA will accept a certified statement instead of an original birth or marriage certificate when needed to establish eligibility, provided it is the first marriage for both the veteran and spouse and the VA has no contradictoryinformation on file. In the past, VA required formal documentation in support of eligibility claims for compensation and education benefits for veterans, widows and orphaned children. VA's liberalized rules also allow acceptance of a certified statement documenting the birth of a veteran's child or as proof of age and relationship in disability cases. The VA urged veterans and their dependents having any question concerning eligibility for benefits to contact the nearest veterans Adminis- tration Regional Office or a representative of one of the local veterans organizations, r .... EDITOR'S NOTE: Following tire representative questions answered daily by VA counselors. Full information is available at any VA office. The revised standards as they apply to the three top grades most often encountered by consumers at meat counters and in restaurants - namely, Prime, Choice and Good - are also fully explained. 3 DAY ESTATE For a About the [ to: ment of Room 16 Incude your At the residence of the late Denver 3rd & 5th.
