Sixth Grade Conservation Field Day Held at Cedar Creek State Park On a normal school day, the big, yellow bus would be transporting stu- dents to classrooms with walls. On May 28, however, the students were taken to Cedar Creek Stage Park to an outdoor classroom, sponsored by the West Fork Conservation Dis- trici. During the Conservation Field Day, students were able to observe: honey bees working and the Queen Bee's activities; how water changes the en- vironment, and the effect it has on aquatic life; how animals play an important [)art in the ecosystem, and their econonlic benefit to humans; how snakes benefit ill the control oJ" rt>denls and other harmful pests (and they got to touch the snakest); the medicinal items and chemical prod- ucts obtained fronl oil and gas; the changing nature of soil, and the uses it provide,;; and the numerous variety of items coming from the forest and its surroundings. It is difficult to enu- merate all the valuable information dispensed by these knowledgeable presenters, as well as the appreciation students expressed for just being there.
