KAREN ELKIN Gilmer County Circuit Clerk Glenville, West Virginia It 7-30 Teens Teaming Up Teenagers from four states will spend close to two weeks ridding the Little and Big Coal Rivers of titter, in a project being coordinated by the West Virginia Department of Envi- ronmental Protection. YouthWorks, aMinneapolis-based Christian organization that provides mission work for church groups, is sending about 40 high school-hge kids to Boone County beginning Monday, July 27, to help clean up the rivers. The youth will work on the rivers a total of eight days between July 27 and August 6. Jess Driesenga. the site coordinator for YouthWorks, said 15 to 20 kids from North Carolina and Michigan will be on the rivers the first week. About the same number of volunteers from Illinois and Pennsylvania will work the second week, she said. Driesenga said the Coal Rivers project is part of YouthWorks' new focus on the Christian's role in pro- tecting the environment. "We do a lot of partnering with organizations who are already doing a fantastic job," she said. "We just give them some extra manpower." Volunteers will spend about five hours a day on the rivers picking up everything from old tires to kitchen appliances. They'll cover about 30 miles of river over the eight days. "YouthWorks came to us looking for projects." said Greg Rote, pro- gram manager for the WVDEP's Re- habilitation Environmental Action Plan (REAP). Sissonville Man Dies in 1-79 Collision According to the Braxton Citizens' News, a third person has lost his life in an automobile accident near Burnsville in less than a wcck The fatal incident occurred at ap- proximately 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21 ,just six days alter a multi-car collision claimed the lives of two people the previous Wednesday, near the 80-mile marker. That accident resulted from the driver of a south-bound vehicle los- mg control, crossing the median and colliding with three north-bound com- muters. Tuesday's fatality occurred when a north-bound driver lost control near the 76-mile marker, crossed the me- dian and struck a tractor-trailer truck. Eye witnesses told authorities that the auto rolled "numerous" times. According ro investigating Sheriff's Deputy, Brice Scarbro, the lone occu- pant of the car was identified as Jacob Hulse. The 22-year-old Sissonville man was reportedly in route to Glen- ville, after learning of his father's death. Hulse was ejected from the 1992 Honda Accord he was driving, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Braxton County Coroner. Bob Stalnaker. The tractor-trailer truck that Hulse collided with was owned by Imlers Poultry, ofAttoona, PA. The vehicle was driven by David Dendate. who escaped injury. Due to the nature of the accident and the debris that littered the road- way, the south-bound lane of the in- terstate was shut down to traffic for more than an hour. The Burnsville Volunteer Fire De- partment and Braxton EMS responded to the accident. The State Police and the B urnsville Police Department also assisted. State Police Report Flatwoods Police Department Trooper Jackson, of the West Vir- ginia State Police is working the Grand Larceny at the school construction site. Basically all the electric and cordless tools were stolen from the site, $5,000-$10,000 worth of tools. They are your typical tools used on a site, such as; hammer drills, chop saw, circular saw, battery-operated grease gun, impact, etc. They are all name brandtoos; Steele, Hilti, Metabo, Bosch, etc. As of right now, Trooper Jackson does not have any serial numbers, but most of the tool cases were handwrit- ten with blue paint, that said "McWilliams Masonry" and some were also identified with a number, for ex- ample "#135" also in blue paint. T.rooper Jackson does not have any leads. All the trooper knows is the site workers were gone since Thurs. July 2, and did not return to the site until Mon. July 6, becaude of the holiday. The padlocks that were cut we re rusted at the cut line, so Trooper Jackson believes the theft occurred Thurs. or Fri. night. If you hear of any information, please let Trooper Jackson know at the Flatwoods Police Department. Thanks for your patience while we interrupt your electric service to improve our facilities in your area.
