[ nichwood nigh Schools Lumber J Express Comes to Gilmer CoUnty:k Thursday, August 27, 2009 -- The Gienville.Democrat ~- Page 15 iiiiiiiii!!! ii TAKE A RIDE ON THE LUMBERJACK EXPRESS -- Richwood High School'sceleb(ated band, directed by Gilmer County's Greg James, is well-known. This 130-member band from a small central West Virginia High School has been featured at many prestigious events and performed for millions of people -- even making appearances on international, national and regional television. On Thurs., Aug. 13, the LumberJack Express takes the field at the Gilmer County Recreation Center for their greatly anticipated floor show. The Richwood band's percussion ensemble worked diligently through the heat on Tuesday afternoon in preparation for Thursday's performance. A LITTLE A/C FOR THE BRASS SECTION --While the percussion section thumped away in the heat and the majorettes practiced on the field, the brass section practiced in one of the recreation center's bright and cool meeting rooms. "1 think its awesome that this band is willing to pass other parks to stay with us," says Recreation Center Managing Director, Darrel Ramsey, "It speaks volumes of Gilmer County hospitality and these facilities."The Lumberjack Express brought an entourage of 16 helpers along to lend a hand, 14 of them are Glenville State College Alumni, as is Director James -- a music major. Pictured above some of the band members are painting the field in preparation for a fully assembled rehearsal. The Richwood Band is one of the oldest running camps for the recreation center, coming here for 36 years now. They are by far the largest group, at 155 campers strong. Their program is one of the oldest in the state. It is a privilege for the community to be so intimately associated with such a great example of accomplishment and work ethic. vv v v v vvv vvv vv v v v vvvvvvvv The world is divided into people who do things and people who get the credit. ---Dwight Morrow From the First Lady's Desk: A monthly Message by First Lady Gayle C.
