West Liberty's Mark Murphy snapped up the ball. lateraled it to defensive back Hobie Baker, who scampered 87 yards far a touchdown. Bungard added the extra point nn a kick and West Liberty was ahead 16-6. The lead was to stand for the remainder of the contest. The Pioneers made the game close with 13:45 to show in the game when Rick Reidl scooped up a lose West Liberty fumble and scampered into the end zone to move the G-Men to within four points, 16-12. A pass attempt for the extra points failed and there was no further scoring in the game. Phillips was the leading rusher for the Pioneers. He had 74 yards on 24 carries. On the evening, the local squad picked up six first downs, as did their opponents. In the air, Kelly was three of 13 for the Pioneers for a total of 104 yards. Total GSC offense was 142 yards. West Liberty had 37 yards rushing in the game, and 79 through the air for a total offensive output of 116 yards. The Pioneers will play West Virginia State Saturday, October 29. In the Miss Majorette competition, Debbie Marks and Shirley Stump were selected semi-finalists and Dabble went on to win the Second Runnerup title. Gilmer's Majorettes as a group in the eight-or-more category--won third place.
