Billy B. Burke Democrat, House of Delegates After traveling and working for 15 years throughout this nation and parts of others, I returned to my home, because I believed it to be the finest place in the world to raise and educate my children. Realizing full well that many improvements were needed here economically and socially, my wife and I began to work with our friends and neighbors to provide needed employ- ment, better cultural climate, and protection from the raging flood waters of the Little Kanawha. Through these efforts I became acquainted with the then Governor, Hulett Smith, who appointed me a member of the House of Delegates to fill a vacancy January 11,,1966, caused by the death of the late Hen. Paul Kidd. Since that day I have dedicated a large part of my life to public service. My number of years of legislative service is near the top. I have studied the legislative process and worked hard to try to make our system provide a better environment for our peoplemI WANT TO USE THIS EXPERIENCE--THAT IS WHY I AM A CANDIDATE. 2) What qualifies a person to represent his fellow man??? building, Multiflora Rose Eradication Program, Senior Citizens Program, Glenville Vocational Rehabilitation Office, Expansion of local health services, Vietnam Veterans Bonus payment without selling bonds, devised a way to insure lower salaried employees of the state a guaranteed cost of living increase, helped to establish Health and Life Insurance program for state employees, improved the Retirement Program for state employees, Expansion of Glenville State College which includes pro- grams, buildings, access road, athletic field and increased employ- ment.
