It is not known how entry was made into the building, but the office was broken into. To do this, two panes of glass were carefully removed from the office door. Nothing of any importance was stolen--just some candy--and no damage was done to the office. There was evidence that those involved had gone through the cabinets and drawers. Tanner, like most schools, does not keep money in the building just in case something of this nature does occur, The matter is being investigated by the Gilmer County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police. Slack, Jr. of the Third Congressional District. which includes Gilmer County. said Friday, December 16, he voted against a bill raising Social Security taxes because he felt Congress was being asked to act too hastily, The final report of the compromise bill only came to both houses Thursday morning, Slack said, and nobody had a chance to study it. What he did find, Slack said, was that the Senate and House conferees put in amendments that had nothing to do with the Social Security bill, He cited an appropriation of $187 million to the states for welfare and the automatic change in .status of federal law judges to permanent status.
