Tuesday after a long illness. Rev. Jay Slater officiated with burial in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens at Weston. Mrs. West is survived by three sons, H. Paul of Charleston, an engineer with the State Dept. of Highways, Stanley R., and Karl W., of Oak Ridge. Tenn.. researchers with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory; a daughter, Mrs. Mary L. Tatterson of Griffin. Ga.; six grandchildren: four step grandchildren; eight step great- grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Lyel T. West. Glen+ill|. She was preceded in death in 1961 by her husband, Albert M. West. Mrs. West was born in Conings. Gilmer county, daughter of the late William Wesley and Phoeba Jane Patton Rymer. She was a member of the Glen+ill| Baptist Church, the Glen+tile Woman's Club. Chapter 90, Order of the Eastern Star. the National Retired Teachers Assoc.. and the auxiliary of the United Spanish-Ameri- can War Veterans. Mrs. Ethel C. Ptckens Mrs. Ethel Carolyn Pickens, 80, Section A ,CI Gilberts 50th anniversary died at her residence Sunday, Dec. 12, following a sudden illness. Mrs. Pickens was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Jefferson and Rebecca Starcher Rinehart. She was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons: Harold of Charles Town, Robert. of Sherman, Tex., and Stanley, of Clarksburg; two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Leone of Garfield Heights, O., and Mrs. Betty Heavner, of Sutton; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. She was married to Russell Hill Pickens, who died in 1962. Also preceding her in death were two sons, three daughters, two brothers, a sister and a grandson. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Spurgeon Mortuary. Re+. Fell Kennedy officiated with burial in Collins Cemetery. In lieu of flowers freinds are asked to make contributions to Patients Emergency Fund, National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Md., in memory of David Shane Pickens, a grandson who died Feb. 29. 1966. On Dec. 29, 1976 John Gilbert and Eunice Gerwig Cain, formerly of Glenville and Highland Park, NJ., will celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary. While in Glenville, Mr. Cain was associated with Glenville Banking and Trust Company. He has been retired from Union Carbide Company in Bound Brook. NI. and the Cains are now living in Bisbee, Arizona. The Cains are parents of six children, five of whom are living: Marilyn Donaldson of Tucson, Arizona, Roberta Zakarian of Canoga Park. Col., Roger of Clinton, NJ., Judy Lambert of New York City and Martha Cain of Florida. Loretta is deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Cain will hold a coffee hour after church on Dec. 26 in Bisbee and their children will honor them with an anniversary dinner on Dec. 29. "When in doubt, tell the truth." Reed of Normantown are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Gaylene, to Jack Clifford Simmons, II, son of Mrs. Betty Simmons, of Huntington. The Glen+tile Democrat/ PaUdlnder 5 Gaylene is a 1975 graduate of Gilmer County High School and is employed by Gilmer Graphics Inc, in Glen+ill|. Jack is a 1975 graduate of Huntington East High School and has attended Marshall University. He is employed by H. T. Boggs Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. in Huntington.
