The Commission on Aging approved several Title Ill grants. Funds for the grants are received from the federal government under Title III of the Older Americans Act for area planning and social services, and are matched with local and State funds. Commission on Aging programs are operating or reaching into each of the State's 55 counties. Approved was the area for aging programs of the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council {Region 5}. The plan provided a $82,266 grant to the Council to be distributed to aging programs in the eight counties in the region. The counties include Calhoun, Jackson, Pleasant.s, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt and Wood, Jim Stuppio of Parkersburg is the area aging specialist for Region 5. Nutrition programs in the region are funded by a grant from the Commission on Aging to the West Central Elderly Feeding Project. Two Title III programs were refunded for the coming year. They were the Logan County Elderly Program administered by PRIDE of Logan. Inc., with a $38,813 grant, and Nicholas County Human Resources and Services administered by the Nicholas County Community Action Association with a $16,094 grant. Both Logan and Nicholas Counties also operate nutrition programs for the elderly, funded by the Commission under Title VII of the Older American Act. Supplemental grants of $5,300 each were made to Title m programs in Boone, Clay, Kanawha and Putnam Counties to increase services for the elderly. The Outreach and Follow-up Services for Senior Citizens in Boone County will use part of its funds to help expand its winterization program and begin a gardening program. Caly County Transportation for Elderly program will use the funds for a winterization program, help provide additional transportation for the county's elderly, and provide assis- tance to older men and women putting out vegetable gardens. The Kanawha Valley Senior Services program will use its funds to help Meals on Wheels serve more homebound elderly and to supplement a home repair program.
